Heard this myself a year or two ago and that mot stations were not allowed to test a built trike that had reliant on the log book unless it basically is a reliant car.
As to date though I have never met anyone who has been pulled on this or had a mot refused so it seems like a word of mouth thing at the moment rather than proven.
I know this doesn't help but it's all I can offer you.
Just a word of warning, any vehicle built must have a make name, and be tested for the road or have it's log book altered to show this fact.
Buying a 3 wheeled reliant robin and cutting it to bit to make a trike then using the same log book used to work, but the fact you are stating maybe a scare monger tactic but never the less true has many reliant based trikes have never been approved for the road as they have just used the reliant log book, often no relaint parts have even been used.
I know a guy with a 20 foot long trike with a jag engine in and the only reliant part used was the petrol cap, needless to say he was taxing it as a reliant, I wonder if he is still getting away with this?
Good luck and let us know if you have any further developments on this.

hi ive just bought a reliant rialto to build a trike on the log book it is registered as a tricycle wich to me sounds more like a 3 wheeled bike than a car when iwas a kid a tricycle was a bike with 3 wheels.police probably doing this because as usual motorists are easy pickings to make the crime statictics sound better

hi are local trike mot tester is a friend so i will go pick his brains tomoz and i will post what i find out for you tomorrow. if you cut the front end off a reliant and add a bike front end it is classed as radicaly altered vehicle so it will require a sva but i will check this.

Changing the front-end on its own doesn't count as a radical change.
It's the change of chassis that is.
If in doubt, check it under the points system.
You can change the front-end and modify non-structural parts of the chassis without accumulating enough points to require SVA.
If it was modified before 2000 then the old rules apply, so not a problem.
