Trikes on the Ferry and in the Chunnel 6 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 1
Can I have some tips about taking a trike on to a cross-channel ferry or through the channel tunnel? I am looking at North Sea Ferries (P&O) Zeebrugge-Hull in particular.
What fare is due, small car or motorcycle with sidecar? How does it work on the channel tunnel trains with the front wheel in the middle?
Any tips and warnings will be welcome.

I've only done it on the bike. Yes, it's expensive. My last jaunt to Bilbao was £300 on the bike, my next to Esjberg is a little more!

All I can suggest is elastic bands for front brakes, take it easy on wet floors as ferries are the slipperiest of surfaces, and obviously leave in gear. The blokes on the ferries are normally really helpful with stropping down etc. I'm guessing they'll let you on like a car. If they do strop you down they normally have rags and stuff to cover your 'best bits', but take your own if you're worried.

The worst thing I had to deal with was at Liverpool docks. I came home from the IOM, and the tide was out. Hence the dock was ALOT higher than the ferry. The ramp going up was metal, with dodgy slats going diagonally, and was very wet as it always rains in Liverpool.

Just my two penneth...have a fabby trip! T x

Thanks to all for the feedback.

I emailed some companies and the bottom line is that a trike is classed as a small car. I did a test booking for May with NSF and came to around €500 when the meals and standard cabin were added. Gone are the days when meals were included and there was "fruit in the cabin". Does anybody remember these days?

There is no real alternative when returning back to Yorkshire as my mother is just over the other side of the Wolds in Malton.

Leaves the Channel Tunnel.....
How does it work with the front wheel? I'm sure it has to work otherwise you wouldn't get on with a Reliant Robin either. Though not a viable alternative for Yorkshire, it would be interesting if heading for the BMF Show (I'm a member) in May.

It's a 6 hour journey from here (Heidelberg/Germany) to the coast so I have no desire to drive another 6 hours from Dover along the M2-M25-M11-A40-M1-A64, so NSF is my favourite.
