Hi Birdy I couldn't be 100% on this but vertical is fine as this is how mine is.
As for push in for on and pull for off, I can't see why not as long as it work and is mechanically operated and not hydraulic or used by way of a clamp then yes it pretty much has to be a ratchet type system.
Take a pic if you can so we can understand a little better your position but I think I understand right by my response.
Ps welcome aboard.

Sounds similar although it would make more sense that saying when you pulled it on it interfered with the foot peg which of course wouldn't matter as if it was on nobody would be sat on the trike anyway, unless it was directly behind the foot peg which then would make sense of why it's getting in the way.
Mine is away from the foot peg by a good few inch although I have seen them attached to the mudguard supports which is sometimes a good idea.
All depends on your build.

the build is bodgit and scarper, hence the shout for help. when the handbrake is in the off position it lays accross the centre of the foot peg(sticks out about four inches from the side of the bike)i will take some pics and show you. how di i get the emoticons to work?

Hover your mouse over the emoticons to see the code and just type the code into the text to get it to work.
This isn't how it should work but I am still trying to figure out why.
